Alfa156 refrigerant leakage – Part 2

After I replaced the broken refrigerant pipe, I enjoyed very much of having a cool and comfort cabin for …… 3 WEEKS. It is really frustrating when we thought a haunting issue has been finally resolved. My mechanic checked the system again and found that the refrigerant leakage was still there and it has gone completely again.

I have had enough, an idea popped up – let me replace all the air conditioning hoses and component save the compressor in order to remove the refrigerant leak. Without much hesitation, I went to the internet to find the the right parts as I was afraid that they would be running out of stock in the near future especially for those RHD parts.

I managed to source all the rest of hoses, condenser, expansion value from 4 countries in a period of 2 months.

Finding the right evaporator turned out to be the biggest challenge. In most cases, parts suppliers do not indicate if the items are for LHD or RHD. Even worse they don’t even know if there are different models for LHD or RHD. During the process, one supplier canceled my order saying that it is no longer available, multiple vendors said they have not had the right model.

Eventually, it took me another 12 months to get the evaporator from Spain. Interesting, Spain is a LHD country, isn’t it?

Without waiting for the evaporator, I let the mechanic replace all the rest of the hoses and condenser, my mechanic replaced the dryer too. So other than the compressor and the component behind the firewall, everything was new.

With the new components and the refilled refrigerant, I got the cool air and cabin back……for another 3 weeks. Gosh……what have I done to deserve all this!
