Alfa156 fuel pump replacement

I’d heard from many fellows that the Alfa156 fuel pump is prone to failure. So I was not surprised when I smelled the petrol in the cabin. Without any hesitation, I ordered a replacement. Obviously the pumps for Twin Spark and Busso are different. Whether of not it is further divided into CF2 and CF3 engine is not sure.

The fuel leak

The fuel spilled all over the top of the pump, it looks very scary. I was thinking what if there is a spark from the electrical connector? I tried locating the crack that caused the leak. Someone do the temporarily fix with epoxy to fill the crack but it usually doesn’t last.

This time I got the chance to witness the process that the mechanic does to replace the fuel pump

I used to think of doing the fuel pump replacement myself. After watching the actual process, I’d say it is doable. However, it likely would take hours to do it instead of having it done in 30 mins if you don’t have the right tool.

There is also a risk to break the rim that lock the pump. Without the tool, it is not easy to unscrew it and it is prone to break. The biggest problem is that it is hard to find a new one.

I’d say just forget to fix it, just replace it.
